Synopsis
In 2003, American soldiers found thousands of Jewish religious documents and artifacts in Saddam Hussein’s intelligence headquarters. The government of Iraq made a deal with the US to restore them. After ten years, The Iraqi Jewish Archives went on display in major exhibits in New York and Washington. But many were too damaged to restore and according to Jewish tradition were prepared for burial.
Director
David Langer has directed documentaries for Discovery, National Geographic, History, Smithsonian, PBS, CBC, TVO, Le Monde, and Radio Canada. He has produced and developed numerous television specials including The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards and the screen adaptation of LE DORTOIR, winner of the International Emmy. Other awards include Le Prix Gemeaux (Canadian Academy of Film and Television), The Gold Hugo (Chicago International Film Festival), The Hot Docs award for the musical biography, GLENN GOULD: THE SHADOW GENIUS, and the Canadian Screen Award (Museum Secrets.)
